Mule Deer Redux!

A friend of mine from Portland asked me the following question on Facebook after I posted this image there:

“Why is it a Mule?”

My response:

“Odocoileus hemionus (mule deer) is native to western North America and is named after it’s ears, which resemble those of a mule.”

This is one of two images I was able to take of our long eared friend while on a stress relieving walk the other day in rural SE Colorado.

So now you know. Happy Friday.

Love to you all.
