Welcome back one and all.
Every month, I like to give something away. Typically, it will be an item that has been out of circulation for a while, and more often than not, it is an item that was created, never used and archived. Sometimes I just like to create something unique for all of you, simply for the joy of it.
This month’s freebie is something a very personal: a family and self-portrait, one I wished could have happened differently. Ben Brown Sr., and I never, and I mean never, got along. Part of this was due to his being an abusive drug addict/alcoholic, a lazy, wife and children beating son-of-a-bitch. He was also an amazing and truly gifted artist. He disowned me in 1988 for being gay and HIV+, and sadly, he died on 22 October 2002, three weeks after his 60th birthday, of HIV and cancer.
When I reconnected with my family in 2011, I was told this news. No, this isn’t justice, revenge or anything else as ugly as that. This was the only opportunity he and I ever had to listen to one of our mutual favorite artists and have a drink in peace. I have the box his ashes are contained in now, and am saving it to fulfill his wishes at a later date.
This can be printed at most copy shops for around $1.50 USD each. Click on the image to open the PDF file.
Love to you all.
Ben “Bear” Brown Jr.
